Why 1941 has two signs
The Chinese year does not start on 1 January. It starts at Chinese New Year, which was January 27, 1941 in 1941. So the people born in 1941 split across two animals.
| Born | Sign | Chinese year |
|---|---|---|
| January 1, 1941 to January 26, 1941 | Metal Dragon | 1940 (庚辰) |
| January 27, 1941 to December 31, 1941 | Metal Snake | 1941 (辛巳) |
Dates follow the calendar in China. Five Elements (BaZi) charts change year at the start of spring, around 4 February, so a BaZi chart can give a different animal for an early-February birthday. See the Five Elements tool.
Chinese New Year 1941 is on a Monday, January 27, 1941, and the Lantern Festival closes the celebration on February 10, 1941. The Metal Snake year lasts 384 days, until February 14, 1942. The same sign and element came round in 1881 and come round again in 2001. A 1941 birthday turns 85 in 2026 and 86 in 2027. Before it came the Metal Dragon year, from February 8, 1940. After it comes the Water Horse year, from February 15, 1942. It is a leap year in the Chinese calendar, with a thirteenth lunar month added.

What sets 1941 apart
Chinese New Year came 12 days earlier on the calendar than in 1940. The Sun entered Aquarius on January 20, 1941, 7 days earlier, so the Metal Snake year opens in Aquarius season.
26 days of 1941, from January 1 to January 26, 1941, still belong to the Metal Dragon year. The other 339 belong to the Metal Snake.
Chinese New Year came 8 days before 4 February, the usual start of spring. For those 8 days, from January 27, 1941 to February 3, 1941, the Chinese calendar counts a Metal Snake where a Five Elements chart still counts a Metal Dragon.
03 · ELEMENT
What the Metal adds to the Snake
The Metal Snake is the most strategic. Metal adds precision and a cool head, so this Snake sees the whole board and plays the long game. It is a strong planner and a hard bargain. It is a Yin year (odd), the inward, quiet side.
The year's stem is Metal and the Snake's own branch is Fire. Fire controls Metal in the cycle, so the animal holds the element in check. Traditionally that reads as a Snake whose nature keeps the Metal in line.
Every Snake year has a different element, so a Metal Snake is not the same as the other Snakes. The cycle repeats every 60 years. Read the full Snake guide, or see all 12 signs and every year on the Chinese zodiac overview.
The Snake year before this one was 1929, an Earth Snake year that began on February 10, 1929. Chinese New Year was 14 days later then, and the element moved on from Earth to Metal. The Snake year after this one was 1953, a Water Snake year that began on February 14, 1953. Chinese New Year was 18 days later then, and the element then moved on from Metal to Water.
Your own year, the year your animal comes round again, repeats every 12 years: 1953 (Water Snake), 1965 (Wood Snake), 1977 (Fire Snake), 1989 (Earth Snake), 2001 (Metal Snake).

What 2026 and 2027 mean for a Metal Snake
Every year carries its own animal and element. Here is how each one sits next to a Metal Snake, read the traditional way. Treat it as something to think with, not a forecast.
2026
Fire Horse year
Animal. Snake and Horse have no special tie, but both are Fire signs, so the year doubles the Snake's own element. Tradition reads heat and drive: ambition runs high, so does the temper, and the Snake that stays composed gets the most from it. It suits bold work done quietly.
Element. Fire controls Metal in the cycle. Read it as pressure that tests and sharpens you, not as bad luck.
2027
Fire Goat year
Animal. Snake and Goat have no special tie, and the Goat's Earth is fed by the Snake's Fire, which gives it a supportive tone. Tradition reads a smoother year than 2026: the Snake can rest, think, and choose a direction without pressure. It is a good year for study and for repairing relationships.
Element. Fire controls Metal in the cycle. Read it as pressure that tests and sharpens you, not as bad luck.
