Why 1947 has two signs
The Chinese year does not start on 1 January. It starts at Chinese New Year, which was January 22, 1947 in 1947. So the people born in 1947 split across two animals.
| Born | Sign | Chinese year |
|---|---|---|
| January 1, 1947 to January 21, 1947 | Fire Dog | 1946 (丙戌) |
| January 22, 1947 to December 31, 1947 | Fire Pig | 1947 (丁亥) |
Dates follow the calendar in China. Five Elements (BaZi) charts change year at the start of spring, around 4 February, so a BaZi chart can give a different animal for an early-February birthday. See the Five Elements tool.
Chinese New Year 1947 is on a Wednesday, January 22, 1947, and the Lantern Festival closes the celebration on February 5, 1947. The Fire Pig year lasts 384 days, until February 9, 1948. The same sign and element came round in 1887 and come round again in 2007. A 1947 birthday turns 79 in 2026 and 80 in 2027. Before it came the Fire Dog year, from February 2, 1946. After it comes the Earth Rat year, from February 10, 1948. It is a leap year in the Chinese calendar, with a thirteenth lunar month added.

What sets 1947 apart
Chinese New Year came 11 days earlier on the calendar than in 1946. The Sun entered Aquarius on January 21, 1947, 1 day earlier, so the Fire Pig year opens in Aquarius season.
21 days of 1947, from January 1 to January 21, 1947, still belong to the Fire Dog year. The other 344 belong to the Fire Pig.
Chinese New Year came 13 days before 4 February, the usual start of spring. For those 13 days, from January 22, 1947 to February 3, 1947, the Chinese calendar counts a Fire Pig where a Five Elements chart still counts a Fire Dog.
03 · ELEMENT
What the Fire adds to the Pig
The Fire Pig is the most outgoing. Fire adds heat and appetite, so this Pig is passionate, adventurous, and enjoys life at full volume. It is a Yin year (odd), the inward, quiet side.
The year's stem is Fire and the Pig's own branch is Water. Water controls Fire in the cycle, so the animal holds the element in check. Traditionally that reads as a Pig whose nature keeps the Fire in line.
Every Pig year has a different element, so a Fire Pig is not the same as the other Pigs. The cycle repeats every 60 years. Read the full Pig guide, or see all 12 signs and every year on the Chinese zodiac overview.
The Pig year before this one was 1935, a Wood Pig year that began on February 4, 1935. Chinese New Year was 13 days later then, and the element moved on from Wood to Fire. The Pig year after this one was 1959, an Earth Pig year that began on February 8, 1959. Chinese New Year was 17 days later then, and the element then moved on from Fire to Earth.
Your own year, the year your animal comes round again, repeats every 12 years: 1959 (Earth Pig), 1971 (Metal Pig), 1983 (Water Pig), 1995 (Wood Pig), 2007 (Fire Pig).
04 · THE SIGN
The Pig behind the Fire
The Pig's best matches are Rabbit and Goat (triple harmony) and Tiger (secret friend). Snake sits opposite on the wheel and is the traditional clash.

What 2026 and 2027 mean for a Fire Pig
Every year carries its own animal and element. Here is how each one sits next to a Fire Pig, read the traditional way. Treat it as something to think with, not a forecast.
2026
Fire Horse year
Animal. Pig and Horse have no special tie, but the Pig's Water meets the Horse's Fire head on. Tradition reads a year of tension between caution and pace: the world moves faster than the Pig likes. The Pig that keeps its own tempo and protects its rest finds the year easier than it looks.
Element. Both are Fire, so the year turns up the volume on what you already are.
2027
Fire Goat year
Animal. Pig and Goat form a triple harmony with the Rabbit, one of the best ties on the wheel. Tradition reads 2027 as the Pig's year of ease: generosity is returned, relationships warm, and work finds a rhythm. It is a good year to build something for the long term.
Element. Both are Fire, so the year turns up the volume on what you already are.
